Life never seems to slow down, does it? I really don’t like to talk about being “busy” (who isn’t busy?) but it’s the truth! Daily life is a packed schedule of spinning plates: work, house, family, and all the little things that keep life running smoothly.
And somehow that list needs to feature:: “do some exercise”!
Your health is fundamental to your success. It’s hard to feel good and perform at your best when your body is below-par. Taking good care of yourself is a foundational step to being a productive, energised, excellent human!
If you want to get the most out of life, you need to fit activity, exercise, and healthy eating into your days. Even if you’re busy. Especially if you’re busy! So let’s talk about how.
1. Forget the “rules”
There is more than one way to stay fit, be active, and eat well. If you don’t have time to go to the gym or go for a run, don’t. Think outside the box and find solutions that meet your goals and fit your schedule.
2. Every little helps
Exercise doesn’t need to be single, long sessions and healthy eating doesn’t have to be an epic effort. Every good decision you make adds up. A 10-minute walk, a 15-minute workout, fruit instead of biscuits.
3. Healthy living hacks
We’re happy to use shortcuts to make life easier (robot hoovers and Gousto, anyone?) so why not do this for health and fitness? Invest in some home workout equipment. Get a coach. Set up a healthy food delivery.
4. Use a calendar
I’m a huge fan of harnessing the powers of Google Calendar to get everything done. Whether you prefer an app or paper & pen, use a calendar. Work tasks, meetings, deadlines, family time and appointments all go in. Now you can identify pockets of time for workouts, walks, healthy eating and sleep. Don’t leave it to chance.
5. Reverse engineer a successful day
If you want to get up at 6am to walk or workout (or start work so you can get a lunchtime workout in), when do you need to go to bed? How can you make this happen? When do you need to eat dinner and finish your evening tasks? Be strategic about this stuff – that’s how health and fitness become routine.
