New Year is a traditional time to set goals.
Do things differently this year by focusing on your daily routine to build success from the ground up.
Set Out The Right Foundations
In this series of blog posts, I have talked you through the entire process I follow with my 1-on-1 coaching clients.
Catch up with the series here: the wheel of life, values and beliefs, habits, goal setting and self-image.
These are powerful tools that will take you through a journey of self-discovery and set you up for lasting change.
How Does All The Reading And Learning Become Action?
The final piece in the puzzle comes when you create a daily routine that keeps you focused on your goal.
Managing your diary will help you lay the foundations for a successful transformation through habits.
Here’s how I do it – using Google Calendar (it works for any calendar system)
Schedule Time For Your Goals
Revisit your goals for the year.
Is it learning and growth?
Then schedule in e-learning, audio books, or projects into your day (driving and walking time are great for these).
Is it to be more active?
You’ll need to schedule in workouts and walking – treat them as an appointment.
It is to take control of your nutrition?
Schedule in food prep and meal planning.
You get the idea.
Scheduling sessions that align with your goals will ensure you keep the focus and consistently work on your goals every week.
Revisit Your Values And Habits
If you have read through this blog series, you will have a PDF for your Wheel of Life, values and beliefs, habits, goals, and self-image workbook.
Create a session in your calendar every morning for each of these, and set it to repeat daily.
This way, your day will begin with a powerful visual reminder of where you need to focus your energy and what you want to achieve.
You can attach the PDF to the calendar slot, or write notes to remind yourself of the details.
Daily Reminders
By creating these reminders and setting them to repeat every single morning, you start your day by focusing clearly on the important things in life.
Tick Off Your Achievements
Reading your Wheel of Life, values and beliefs, habits, goals, and self-image reminders every morning won’t take very long.
But it’s important.
Once you’ve read them, delete the calendar session.
This is a crucial step – because it gives you the empowering sense of satisfaction that you’ve done what you set out to do.
Create A Routine That Works For You
This basic calendar routine has worked for me for years.
But you can adapt it to suit your personality.
Some of my clients create a “motivation” calendar slot alongside their other early-morning slots, where they keep a note of quotes, compliments, and other inspiring words.
The Power Of Routine And Structure
This approach to daily routine will remind you of your intentions every day.
You’ll never be too far away from your goals.
You’ll know exactly what you want to achieve.
And as you go about your day, you’ll execute the actions that move you closer to your goal.
Using the calendar tool helps build habit and embed them with daily practice.
In time, it will all become subconscious – and that’s when you have success for life.
