The truth about weight loss (they don’t want you to know)

It’s Time Someone Told The Truth

When someone embarks on a journey of personal growth to improve an aspect of their lives,  this is meant to be a positive and fulfilling pursuit of change and transformation.

Making Positive Lifestyle Changes

Resolving to lose weight is so much more than just changing the numbers you see on the scale.

It is a comprehensive lifestyle change in which you strive to develop new habits from your old ones and bring positive changes to your health that will last a lifetime.

Personal change is an art, and my method for coaching focuses not only on physical but also mental transformation, so that the impact on my clients’ lives is meaningful, long-lasting and self-affirming.

The Pyramid Of Transformation

I have created a concept called ‘The Pyramid of Transformation’, based on my 14 years of experience in professional health and mindset coaching.

Within this pyramid, mindset is the foundation for any form of transformation, whether this is in regards to health, relationships, education, or work.

Indeed, these various facets of your lives are closely interlinked with each other –

meaning that working on and making progress in one area will be reflected in beneficial changes in other areas.

The reason for this is simple: the mind is an extraordinarily powerful tool, and it is crucial to learn how to harness its potential and channel this power so that it facilitates positive change.

Self Image Is The Key To Long Term Change

In terms of weight loss, a positive self-image is essential for worthwhile and lasting results.

Embarking on a weight loss journey requires you to implement changes into your life, such as nutrition and physical activity.

Although this may at first seem like something of a paradox,

weight loss depends on you having a positive self-image of yourself from the outset because this allows you to remain motivated, driven, and happy throughout the journey.

Admittedly, it can be a struggle to feel good about yourself when you are unhappy with the way you look, which is often the main reason why people decide to lose weight.

However, a negative self-image affects your feelings of self-esteem, confidence, and your resolve to continue, sabotaging your weight-loss results.

Is Your Mind Working Against You?

This is the reason why mindset is so crucial, because if your mind is working against you then it is going to be a constant upwards struggle to achieve long-term physical changes.

Essentially, self-image is the way you see yourself in the world and how you believe those you interact with perceive you as well.

If you have a negative self-image, then this can quickly overwhelm any efforts you take to improve your health.

The reason for this is because, regardless of the progress you may be making at first,

whenever you look into the mirror you are still haunted by the images imprinted in your mind from years of suffering from low self-esteem.

A negative self-image also means that you see yourself solely in terms of your goal weight or body and that you can only feel better about yourself once you’ve achieved this.

There Is No Quick Fix

However, physical transformation is a long journey, and it takes time to see noticeable results.

Therefore, whenever you see yourself in the mirror and your present image of yourself doesn’t align with your expected

‘self-image’ goals, then it’s easy to become demotivated and disappointed.

This is the way in which self-image affects your weight-loss goals,

it’s one of the main reasons why people are unable to continue with their journey and return to their previous lifestyle habits.

The way in which you see yourself affects the decisions and choices you make in life. Self-image is a mechanism your subconscious mind relies upon to protect your emotions.

How The Past Influences The Future

If someone has experienced bullying throughout their life due to their physical experience,

then without you realising,

your subconscious mind will influence your behaviour to avoid any situations where you could be emotionally hurt.

For example, someone who feels conscious regarding their weight may develop behaviour patterns in line with the self-image their subconscious has internalised.

You may avoid going to the gym, perhaps, or you may turn to unhealthy eating habits as a source of comfort and distraction.

The Mind Is The Foundation Of All Transformation

For effective weight-loss results,

you need to change the patterns created by your subconscious,

and channel its desire to protect you so that it enables action rather than avoidance.

It’s crucial that you remember this transformation is about health and lifestyle rather than just changing the number on the scale.

Change How You Look At Things

Furthermore, it’s essential to realise that your desire to lose weight is not because you are unhappy with the way you look or you need to change something negative about yourself.

This choice is instead a reflection of your determination as an individual,

your inner strength and dedication,

and your willingness to work on your personal growth and change your life for the better.

Transforming your mindset to align with this will utterly change the way you see yourself.

How To Change Your Mindset

There are a few ways you can work on changing your self-image.

One of these would be to consciously focus on the things about yourself you feel positively about.

Consider all of the things you love about yourself

you will very quickly realise that you tend to magnify the parts of yourself you feel negatively about out of proportion.

Positive Self Talk

Changing your internal dialogue is also important because you are often your own worse critic.

You can project your personal criticisms onto others

so that you believe those around you feel the same way about you as well.

For example, rather than saying…

‘I want to lose weight because I’m overweight’

you can say to yourself…

‘I want to lose weight so that I can live a healthier lifestyle.’
