How Christina lost 30lbs & 3 dress sizes without going to the gym

Christina had been struggling with her weight for most of her adult life – losing and gaining the same 2 stone without ever knowing what truly worked.

When she moved to Berkshire with her daughter this inspired her to finally do something about it. Work was stressful and bad habits around food were hard to break on her own. Christina knew she had to tackle weight loss differently. Here’s how she lost an amazing 30lbs – and finally learned what works for her body.

“I’d tried it all over the years,” she said. “Fasting, cutting carbs, veganism. I lost a lot of weight over lockdown because I was walking about 20,000 steps a day, but I knew I couldn’t keep that up for the rest of my life. I needed to learn how to keep the weight off properly.”

When Christina reached out to me, she was tired and demotivated from yoyo dieting. She felt successful at work, but not at looking after her body, and that felt frustrating. Like many people, Christina had previously given up when her weight loss stalled. I assured her that I would be there with encouraging words or suggestions, to keep her moving forward.

“I immediately felt that Joe was more than a normal personal trainer,” said Christina. “One thing that stood out was the level of support – I knew that’s what I needed to stay on track.”

A no-gym, no-diet approach to 30 lb weight loss

As a busy single mum, Christina didn’t want to go to a gym. So I wrote a bespoke training programme to burn fat and increase lean muscle mass. Her plan had a variety of home workouts, each one with supporting videos to explain all the exercises.

“There were times when I’d tell Joe I wanted to give up,” she said. “He would never judge or criticise, instead he’d say it was good that I’d reached out, and help me be patient and just keep going. Consistency and patience are so important, and that’s really how I lost so much weight this time around.”

Overcoming the habit of emotional eating

Christina told me she wanted to be more aware of the habits that were holding her back. I helped her build a strategy to recognise emotional eating triggers, and deal with the feelings in more positive ways that were in line with her goals.

Together we designed an approach to food that worked for Christina’s body and lifestyle. Christina made self-guided changes to her eating habits, including the decision to stop snacking between meals, a choice which saved a lot of calories which she could use for main meals.

“I didn’t want to track calories, and Joe supported that decision,” she said. “I asked him to help me change my approach to grazing and snacking, and I now eat healthy balanced meals and no snacks at all. It’s made a huge difference to my life.”

12 weeks fat loss results for Christina

In 12 weeks of online coaching, Christina lost over 30lbs of bodyfat, going from 33% to 22% body fat and from a size 16 to a size 10-12. Her iron levels are back up to healthy levels, and even her skin and hair are healthier!

After years of extreme approaches to dieting, Christina has finally found a weight loss blueprint that works for her body. She asked for my support with changing unhealthy eating habits, and can now put together a nutritious meal without a second thought. She also became someone who exercises regularly and enjoys it!

“I’d always known that we all need to eat well and exercise regularly, but I never knew how to translate that into everyday life,” she said. “That’s where Joe’s guidance was invaluable. He has the knowledge and ideas to help you find a method you can stick to for the long term.”

Rediscovering the joy of healthy living

I always talk about mindset and life goals with my coaching clients. I encouraged Christina to fill out the Wheel of Life, which got her thinking about parts of her life that had been neglected. As a result, she put boundaries in place around work hours, and introduced more fun and play!

Christina remembered how much she enjoyed karate as a child. She found a martial arts club near her house, and now she and her daughter go to Taekwando together twice a week.

“Joe encouraged me to think about my life a lot more,” she said. “I wasn’t doing anything for myself. As a result of Joe’s coaching, I work less, stress less, and laugh a lot more – including with my daughter. Joe helped me see that it’s possible to have fun again even when you’re stuck in a rut.”
